XLR8 Performance Exhaust: Non-Resonated System Has A Resonator In It?

Don't be surprised when you get yourself a brand new Non-Resonated exhaust from XLR8 Performance and find that it has what looks strikingly like a resonator right in the mid-pipe:

According to Billy Boat, the producer of XLR8 exhaust systems, that is a Purge Resonance Technology chamber, or PRT. From BB:

"The Billy Boat Performance Exhaust PRT system is simple in design, though more complex in theory, which suggests that you can have a mellow sound at cruising speeds and a sport note when you're tearing up the streets. It allows true straight through exhaust passage under aggressive driving conditions, through a mellow sound is emitted at cruising speeds thanks to the unique Purge Chamber. This Billy Boat Performance Exhaust PRT system works purely on physics without mechanical devices to direct exhaust flow"

Now, we know that XLR8 systems for TLs are anything but mellow, even at cruising speeds they can definitely be heard clearly. But the fact remains that these parts are there in all systems, resonated or not. What is it?

Here is what it looks like inside:

Perforated, straight through core, there looks like some kind of a chamber at the outlet transition to the rest of the cat-back.

If you've purchased a non-resonated system expecting to be able to wake your neighbors, fear not. Your exhaust will be plenty noisy, even with this PRT chamber in place. Even if you want to call it a resonator, it is not a bad thing. It won't rob power or tailpipe sound. It is just another muffler under the car designed not to make your head explode when cruising down the road.

That purge is the worst.. Removing it off my exhaust soon... Has been faulty on my quads and makes a rasp. Removing it to get my real tone! Contacted Billy Boat and they have not replied to me... Big no no to me since I am a true XLR8 lover
