  • Notable Improvement in Engine Character February, 24
    By Douglas Glenn, Spirited/Stylish Commuter
I have a K&N high flow intake, and a custom Magnaflow exhaust. The 2nd cat was added later and the improvement in engine character was notable. Fit was great, bolted right in once you get the rusted factory bits off and the gaskets were spot on. The welds were very nice. I had a bit of sulfur smell right after installation when it first got hot, but have not had that since. My butt dyno says the engine has more punch, particularly over 3.5K RPM and really seems to spin more freely. Before, I could just barely pull the hill near my house in 5th gear at 55 mph which is about 3K RPM. After the cat was replaced, I can pull the hill with ease and even accelerate from 55mph in 5th, so there was definitely some power gained. The exhaust may have gotten a little louder, but by a very small amount, if at all. Just comparing the construction of this unit to the stock part, it is easy to see this high flow cat will definitely flow far better. They also sent a cool RV6 neck lanyard and a nice telescoping magnetic bolt/nut retriever, too. I'm very happy with this upgrade and would recommend it if your green inner self will not let you do the straight pipe!
