Racingbrake Rotors Break The Mold: The Best Rotors EVAR!!! So awesome, they are HT-SPEC!

It is no secret that Raingbrake performance brake rotor have been a favorite of ours for the last 5+ years. We have been writing and posting about them for years, and have converted many of you into believers in Racingbrake’s technology. We would like to take a little time to look back at some of the information we’ve published to help inform the many newcomers to the Acura scene.

I have also gone through and added some footnotes to bring the writings “up to date.” I learn things over time, as do we all. Note updated writings referenced by the “! Added _/_/_ !” designation.

Let’s start with this article that does a decent job of outlining how brakes work and what can cause the shakes and shimmies we all dread so much:
Heeltoe’s Take on Brakes; Some general comments.
08/03/07 – Not much updated but still good to read and freshen up!

In this article, I outline some factors concerning brake rotors and pads. One of the main talking points has to do with shimmying, or the shaking in the steering wheel you get while braking. I also comment on driving technique, which probably influences the condition of the brakes more than you think it would…and differently than you think it would as well!

A technical article that a lot of people bought Racingbrake product based on, and one that I am sure will resonate with some folks out there who are looking for a rotor that is a TRUE upgrade:
Why Racingbrake is a great brake rotor
08/15/07 – Updated with new pics and commentary!

This article is sort of a continuation on the one above. In discussing a lot of the issues with brakes, I can build a really good case for how Racingbrake overcomes these issues with features that go beyond what the competition offers (namely, holes and paint).

Then here is an informative posting I made was with regard to brake bedding, now with pics added!
Brake Pad Bed-in Procedure, recommended by Heeltoe
07/12/07 – Updated with new pics and commentary!

This gets it’s own article because of how important it is to get right. I have had a few customers buy Racingbrake rotors, even 2-piece ones, and complain of a shaking a few months after they install them. We take them back for inspection and upon inspection we notice that the rotors have gotten warm, but the cross-hatching in the friction surface of the rotor is all there still. The cross hatching is designed to promote bedding by increasing the friction of the surface causing the pad material to heat up faster and fill the crevices of the rotor face. Racingbrakes in particular MUST have a high heat buildup in order to be bedded correctly. If the cross hatching is still very obvious after bedding in, you did not get the part hot enough. You should see smoke after bedding new Racingbrake parts in.

Once you have your rotors on, let’s see how long you can get them to last!

An article from Counterman Magazine (yes, I get this and read it monthly…it’s my life I guess): Signs Of A Good Rotor: Proper Design, Build

So, in this posting, I have taken you on a sort of technical journey. First, I have explained a little bit about braking systems. Then I went into great detail on why it is Racingbrake rotors are superior to the competition. And then I have noted that when you have made the wise decision to purchase and install Racingbrake parts, you get them bedded in properly.

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions at all, I encourage you to call or email me; or better yet, post up here for all to read and learn from our discussion!

Great job Marcus with the RB products! I had them on my 04 A-spec TL and it was by far the best brake setup I’ve ever experience when paired with the ET500 pads. Sadly, I sold my TL 10k miles later.

But now I’m on the push to bring more RB products to the market. RacingBrake is so good you really need to drive a car with RB rotors and pads, then the same car without and you’ll see for yourself the night and day difference they make.

With your help, and other Acurazine members I hope to bring RB 2 piece rotors to the 4G TL. They have 1 piece slotted already, but I think those that really want the braking performance will opt for the 2 piece setup (ie: SH-AWD drivers). The unsprung weight savings are huge, and would really benefit this 2 ton beast. Additionally, I would like to see R&D on a two-piece setup for the rear rotors.

The Ridgeline rotor looks like its out – (which I helped and pushed heavily) – as is the 2G MDX. Thanks again for offering great products at great prices and I’ll continue to support you.

PS: Fantastic news about ATLP – I love hearing you and Mike will be working hard to bring more parts to the forefront. :)

Your slotted rotors on 2000 Acura TL, what cast iron grade are they from, is it a G3500?

  7. MrHeeltoe says:

I think I read something about that on their site before although I cannot find it now. The UP rotors are a high grade. G3000? 3500? I can say they are heat-treated though, so the alloy definitely has to be right for that process.
