Mounting

Mounting

Entire torque dampers, or ETDs, are effective at LIMITING engine movement. Whew you are on and off the gas the engine torques in the mounts and and this leads to a shift in momentum. For racers it's an unwanted reaction that can mess with one's ability feel what the car is doing and therefore reduces control. For most of us though, it just makes it harder to drive smoothly.

Solid it polyurethane engine mounts do the same thing as an ETD. They are even more effective at reducing or eliminating engine movement, but at the cost of annoying vibrations and cabin noise.

An ETD is a great balance between limiting powertrain movement will also keeping NVH to a minimum.

Since there is generally less engine movement in automatic trans cars (due to the computer doing a lot of work to make shifts smooth) the benefits of these parts are mostly felt by manual transmission drivers.

However, any car with enough power to spin the tires is going to benefit from LIMITING engine movement. ETDs may also contribute to longer life of the engine mounts.
